Hunter finds human remains

SUSITNA RIVER — A hunter on a fly-in trip found what Alaska State Troopers describe as a “badly decomposed” human body Sept. 11. According to an AST statement about the discovery, the body was found on the west bank of the Susitna River a half mile upstream of its confluence with Tyone Creek. A Glennallen trooper aboard an AST helicopter recovered the remains Thursday and flew them back to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for an examination.

“We believe we know who it is and have talked to that person’s family. The SME is working on positive identification,” trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters wrote in an e-mail Friday afternoon.
