WASILLA — Within the last two weeks, the Redington girls basketball squad notched its first win in school history and its first Southcentral Conference victory. Monday, Redington within reach of knocking off a defending state champion.
Bristol Bay, the defending 2A state champs, needed overtime to edge Huskies 60-56 at Redington.
Huskies captain Courtney Crockett scored nine of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to help Redington force overtime. The Huskies outscored Bristol Bay 17-12 during the final quarter of regulation.
Sharon Hanson scored all of her team’s points in extra time as Bristol Bay outscored Redington 6-2 during the tiebreaker. Hanson, who hit a three-pointer in overtime, scored a game-high 26 points in the victory. Denali Moorcraft added 19.
The Redington boys used a rally to notch its third victory in four games. The Huskies trailed by 10 at the break, but owned the second half. Redington outscored Bristol Bay 33-3 during the final two quarters, and earned a 55-35 win.
Jaycob Elliott led the Huskies with a game-high 24 points. Brody Brooks added nine and Jaiden Straughn chipped in eight.
