Tuesday was a good night for the Redington girls basketball squad on several levels.
The Huskies celebrated their first four-year senior class, scored a win over rival Houston for the second time this season and locked up the Southcentral Conference North Division No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference championships.
The Huskies improved to 15-4 overall with a 35-24 win over the Hawks. Redington jumped to a 14-6 first-quarter lead, and held the Hawks to single-digit scoring in all four quarters. Marian Aparezuk led the Huskies with a dozen points in the win. She was also 5 of 5 from the free throw line during the fourth quarter. Abbie Fuller added 11, and Lexi Seymore chipped in nine.
Denali Whitted led Houston with 10 in the loss. Whitted scored seven of Houston’s nine fourth-quarter points. After Redington’s 14-point first quarter, the Hawks did not allow redington to score in double digits during any of the final three quarters.
In boys’ action, Houston scored a 61-37 win over the Huskies. Kyle McLaughlin led Houston with 15 points and eight rebounds. Cole Taylor hit four three-pointers and added 14. Hayden Howard finished with 11 points and eight boards.
Michael Casida led Houston with eight points. Tony Rogers, Ruben Bond and Jahzeah Williams added six each.
