WASILLA — The Redington Huskies are off to their first 4-1 start in school history.
The fourth-year varsity program improved to 4-1 with a 42-0 win over Valdez Sept. 20 at Redington.
The Huskies led just 6-0 at halftime, but poured on an additional 36 points during the final two quarters. Redington leads the Aurora Conference with 180 total points, and an average of 36 points per game. Redington is also 2-1 in the Aurora Conference, and the Huskies are preparing for a key conference clash. Redington is at Barrow Saturday afternoon. The Whalers, who beat defending state champion Eielson 42-0 last week, are 2-0 in conference play. Eielson and Redington are tied at 2-1. The Huskies need a win over Barrow to stay alive in the playoff hunt. With a win over Barrow, the Huskies, Ravens and Whalers would all be 2-1 and a tiebreaker would be needed to determine which two teams qualify for the Division III playoffs.
With a Barrow win, the Whalers would clinch the conference title and home field advantage during the first round of the playoffs. A Barrow victory would also clinch the second seed in the playoffs for Eielson, and eliminate the Huskies from the playoff race.
