One of the country's largest ice cream social is coming to Wasilla.
Cold Stone Creamery, a Wasilla ice cream store in the Creekside Plaza, is taking part in a fund-raising effort for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on July 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., as part of a nationwide effort.
The third-annual event has become successful for helping raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Last year, the Wasilla store raised $1,146 and the five Alaska stores together raised more than $4,000.
This year, the Wasilla store's goal is to more than double last year's amount and finish with at least $3,000 for the foundation.
During the ice cream social, there will be carnival games for kids to play, face painting and balloons. Cold Stone is trying to get donations from businesses in the Valley to give door prizes out during the event as well. North Star Raceway is also having some of its drivers at the ice cream social to sign autographs.
People can also get a free slice of the Make-A-Wish Ice Cream Cake, a Cold Stone creation that was inspired by 11-year-old Kristen and 9-year-old Brian, two Make-a-Wish children. It is devil's food cake with sweet cream ice cream, chocolate shavings and Oreo, topped with ganache. Donations are accepted.
