WASILLA — The Wasilla Police Department has identified Adrian Herron as the man shot and killed by three officers Aug. 16 in Wasilla.
The officers on scene at the time of the shooting were Sergeant Don Ridge, Adam LaPointe and Sawyer Skiba. Officers were given 72 hours of mandatory leave following the shooting. Ridge has served WPD for 13 years, and LaPointe and Skiba have served two each. According to WPD PIO Amanda Graham, all three officers fired their weapons.
Herron, 30, was stabbing his wife with two knives, according to a report released by WPD Monday, when police were called to the house just after 4:30 a.m. Officers heard screaming outside of the residence, according to the report, and broke down the door when Herron refused to exit the house.
“[Herron] failed to comply with the commands from the officers and was shot and died as a result of his injuries,” according to the release.
Officers fired on Herron and began treating the victim for her stab wounds until the Emergency Medical Services arrived, a measure that reportedly saved her life. Children were downstairs in their bedrooms at the time. Herron’s wife called WPD at 4:30 that morning making claims that Adrian was threatening to kill anyone in the house. The wife was taken to the hospital and her name will not be released.
Children were inside the home, according to the initial report released Aug. 16, but were located safely in a bedroom downstairs.
This is a developing story.
