Iditarod champ telling tales from the trail to help a school

Last March, Martin Buser capped off an amazing run to Nome, winning the Iditarod in record time.

For most people, reading about the Iditarod in the newspaper or watching it on the news is the closest they get to the race. Buser is changing that, however, as he is putting people on his sled with him on Nov. 22.

That's when Buser will be presenting "Tales from the Iditarod Trail," a slide show of the 2002 race which he is narrating. It gives people a behind-the-scenes look at the race and the men and women who have carved out names for themselves by running the grueling, 1,100-mile run to Nome.

If anyone is qualified for such a presentation, it is Buser. In March he set the record for the fastest Iditarod in history, marking the fourth time he won the race.

The presentation is a fund-raiser for the Midnight Sun Family Learning Center. Tickets are $20 each. The presentation takes place on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at Nye Ford in Wasilla.

It is the same show Buser will be presenting to already sold-out audiences in Washington, D.C. for the National Geographic Society.

Organizers said seating is limited, and reservations are preferred. To reserve a ticket, interested people can call 376-4511 or drop by Nye Ford to pick up a ticket.
