Iditarod veteran wins Copper Basin 300

TOLSONA — Only seven minutes separated the top two mushers of the 2010 Copper Basin 300.

Four-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race champion Jeff King won the Copper Basin 300 Monday afternoon.

King followed his team into the Tolsona and crossed the finish line at 12:34 p.m., seven minutes ahead of second-place Allen Moore.

The Denali Park resident had just a two-minute lead over Moore when leaving Glennallen, the final checkpoint before the finish.

Race rookie Josh Cadzow hit the finish chute at 1:24 p.m. Monday and placed third.

Sonny Lidner (1:52 p.m.) and Dan Kaduce (2:06) p.m. rounded out the top five.

The 2010 race features a $12,000 purse. King gets $3,000 for his first-place finish. Moore ($2,400), Cadzow ($1,800), Lidner ($1,320) and Kaduce ($1,080) also earned the right to a four-digit pay day.

HOUSTON — Casey Boylan was the lone driver to finish among three entrants of the pro class jof the Alaska Motor Mushers/Wasilla Racing Lions races on Saturday.

Brad Rigdon (semipro) and Carly Davis (women’s) also won their divisions.
