The Matanuska Susitna Orchestra is a gem. I attended a concert they put on last May 17 sponsored by the Friends of the Palmer Library and was very
impressed by the quality of the music. Conductor Kate Patterson is a consummate professional and her enthusiasm was evident throughout the afternoon.
She chooses a wide variety of genres of music and I always learn something from the program notes she prepares. As a teacher of music in a local school, she is also a passionate advocate for promoting the arts in general, and music specifically in our area.
The players are all volunteers but under Patterson’s direction
they play together like professionals. Many of them also teach local students to play stringed interments so the gift of music is being passed on to future generations. My thanks to and admiration for all involved in presenting this lovely concert.
