Impressive candidates

For the last decade or so I've tried to stay abreast of Wasilla city and school issues. If voters haven't decided who they are going to vote onto the school board and Wasilla City Council, I'd like to make some recommendations:

• Sandra White school board Seat G. I've had a couple of extended conversations with Sandra and I am so impressed! She is sharp, and also thoughtful and wise. She's doing lots of homework and not making snap judgments, but formulating tentative positions and testing them through debate and discussion.

• Colleen Hamblen school board Seat F. Colleen's commitment to public education is not a recent pose to attract votes. A couple of years ago I sat with Colleen on a committee that sought to educate the public about the need for new schools in our community. She has a lot to offer and she'll get my vote too.

• Dianne Woodruff for Wasilla City Council Seat E. Dianne has been tireless in her efforts to protect the property values of city residents and promote responsible development.

• Mark Ewing for Wasilla City Council Seat F. Mark is a champion of the underdog, and he won't vote against his conscience and the public just to win favor with other council members, as his opponent Norm Fuller did while on the council previously.

Our community is very lucky that we have such great candidates running for office.

Voters can avoid the lines on Election Day and do it now by voting absentee-in person at either of these locations:

•Mat-Su Borough Clerk's Office in Palmer, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• State Division of Elections Office, Building B of the North Fork Professional Building on Bogard Road in Wasilla, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Our young men and women are fighting and dying to win for other people the privileges we have, like the privilege to vote. Let's not fail to exercise that privilege.
