In defense of God-given rights

To the editor,

This is a rebuttal to a letter written by Art Carney that appeared in the March 27 edition (“Learning from mistakes gives life meaning,” page A6).

Society has major swings from pagan to the Catholic Church. Both made strides in technology as well as harming and empowering human rights. Sure the “Dark ages” were intolerant of scientific progress but the Age of Enlightenment wasn’t all roses either. The Protestant Reformation wasn’t a “weakening of religious authority,” but rather a new religious belief. The advent of the Magna Carta and the started less control by monarchs, then towards our founder fathers affirming our natural rights, aka our God Given Rights over that of a monarchy. These aren’t rights of man, rather an affirmation of our rights under God.

Our Declaration of Independence, and Constitution was mistrust of a monarch invoking only one religion. The 1st Amendment affirms our right to believe in what we want to, Catholic, Protestant, Buddha, Muslim, Atheist, etc. Our founders envisioned not a “new system” but rather a government of the people, by the people and that government works for us.

Mr. Carney invokes the environmentalist mantra of evil science and yes Capitalism that gave us the Industrial Revolution. “Global warming” raises its ugly head. He goes on the lie that man has caused all our problems, forgetting volcanic eruptions and fires. All this while man is moving forward from campfires to today’s industrial complexes. Changing weather patterns over the centuries caused shortages of water, food and changes in the standard of living. Droughts, flooding, cold and hot all have happened over the many centuries. Man has had zero impact that over that time frame. As to “science now understands the problem” those global cooling/warming/climate change scientists have been shown to be frauds.

As to a new “Enlightenment concerning value of life....” that’s Marxism/Socialism, Nazism, Stalinism, or Maoism. That is not the “enlightenment” we need or want. History has shown the fall of that, along with the billions who were killed by the likes of Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Pal Pot, etc.

We know what works, life, liberty and pursuit of happiness over what is “right” because of gender, race, etc. Mr. Carney is right that we will continue to “seek knowledge and overcome needless suffering.” We whom are not “born with a blank mind” will stand for our God Given Rights, our Natural Rights and against any and all intolerance from the left and attempts at taking away our freedoms and liberties.
