In favor of less violent imagery

To the editor:

I just received a mailer for state Senate candidate DeLena Johnson showing her posed with her shotgun promising to “get rid of big spending politicians.” Can’t we please get past this offensive, violent imagery and deal with real issues?

Where does the candidate stand on public funding of private, religious schools? How about the big oil giveaway? Will she be a disciple of the American Legislative Exchange Council? What about the Usibelli coal mine upwind from downtown Palmer? Raising the minimum wage? Recognize employees’ right to organize?

Will she be yet another “We’re open for business” candidate, or will she actually represent the people who live in her district? Threatening to use her Mossberg to blow away “big spenders,” who of late, have been her fellow Republicans, is shallow, inflammatory and should have no place in our electoral process.
