FAIRBANKS — The Palmer Moose hold a pair of top-10 spots in the team standings following the first day of the ASAA Cross Country Ski State Championships at Birch Hill in Fairbanks.

The Palmer boys currently stand sixth among 21 programs competing in the three-day meet. The Moose placed three skiers in the top-33 and four in the top-50.

Junior Dunedin Strickland led the Moose with a 19th-place finish in the championships’ first event, the 7.5-kilometer classic race.

Strickland finished the course in 24 minutes and 41 seconds.

Junior Davis Dunlap placed 24th for Palmer, crossing the finish line at 24:59.6. Junior Wylie Mangelsdorf followed in 33rd, finishing at 25:26.5.

Ted Hoople (50th, 26:37.1), Jacob Simon (27:35.7) and Andrew McConnell (28:57.8) also finished for Palmer.

The Palmer girls are in seventh following the first day.

Junior Kimberly DelFrate led the Moose with a 17th-place finishing, posting a time 18:38. Amanda DelFrate finished 37th for the Moose, at 19:56.

Shannon Stough (42nd, 20:10), Laura Whitmore (58th, 20:53) and Stephanie Stephens also finished for the Moose (130th, 22:37).

Colony stands just outside of the top-10, holding the 11th-place spot in both classes.

Colony senior Corbyn Jahn joined Strickland and Dunlap in the boys’ top-30 with his 27th-place finish.

Jahn was 10 seconds behind Dunlap, finishing at 25:10.

Gunner Williams (46th, 26:24), Schyler Knopp (65th, 27:45), Steven Sinnett (72nd, 28:23.7) and Abe Meyerhoffer (79th, 29:01) also finished for CHS.

Caitlin Skvorc led the Colony girls with a 41st-place finish. With her time of 20:07, Skvorc finished ahead of teammates Sydney Stewart (45th, 20:22), Ellen VanGorder (56th, 20:49), Abby Jahn (62nd, 21:00), Lindsay Dreese (78th, 21:57) and Taylor Stewart (81st, 22:11).

Senior Leif Johnson led the Wasilla boys’ with a 49th-place finish, completing the course in 26:33.

Baruch Chamberlin (52nd, 26:40), Conner Mattson (91st, 30:25), Josh Pakhala (95th, 30:50) and Rick Loveless (112th, 33:00) also finished for the WHS boys.

Cory Schleich (75ht, 21:46), Valerie Schleich (76th, 21:54), Katherine Parker (94th, 23:21), Jenna Wright (105th, 24:02 and Robyn Hall (15th, 25:51) finished for the WHS girls.

Senior Ian Mannix (25:28) led Susitna Valley with a 34th-place finish in the boys’ race.

Tyler Figley (83rd, 29:14) and Suvan Sterling (104th, 31:25) also finished for Su Valley.

Freshman Morgan Michels (69th, 21:18) led the Su Valley girls.
