INA J. HOAK

Ina J. Hoak, 88 passed away quietly on Sept. 13, 2002, at Mountain Community Hospital in Lake Arrowhead, Calif. She was born June 8, 1914, in Cottonwood, Texas. She was a beautician, pilot, teacher and homemaker. She was also a renowned professional landscape artist in many states, including Alaska, where she lived for more than 34 years. She was a member of the Alaska Artist Guild and Pioneer Artist Co-op in Palmer. She taught art at Elmendorf AFB and in her studios in Anchorage and Palmer. Although she left Alaska in 1995, she never stopped loving the Alaskan people and the beautiful land which was the inspiration for her best art work.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fillmore A. Hoak of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., and daughter Phyllis I. Hoak-Reneau of Temple City. Other surviving family include M. Faye Walters of Lubbock, Texas, Ola Mae Sullivan of Granbury, Texas, Frances E. Rose of Athens, Texas and John F. McNelly of Brady, Texas.

Her son, Ian Don Hoak, was the general manager of the Anchorage Opera at the time of his death in 1994.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Anchorage Opera, 1507 E. Spar Rd., Anchorage, AK 99501.
