To the editor:
An open examination of the administration of the U.S.-led Haiti relief efforts show ignorance of successful human management principles our country was founded on and, instead, reliance on force, fear and propaganda.
Notice the preoccupation with “security” with some 13,000 U.S. troops (more coming) and effective replacement of Haitian government with martial law. The desperation of hungry, devastated people is being met with humanized herding and livestock care methodology, instead of with leadership and assistance to be self-reliant.
Why is lawlessness being encouraged by restricting — and thus slowing — supply and delivery of food and emergency materials just to those countries that appease U.S. security prejudices? Why are resources in Haiti for shelter and food being soaked up by grandstanding politicians and mobs of sensationalist press?
Why are Haitians being made into beggars instead of being put to paying work building shelter and infrastructure using methodologies needing minimum training?
The Iraq and Afghanistan wars are lengthening from similar incompetence and ignorance of military history.
Isn’t it fascinating how often our government’s incompetence and failures get covered up by the independent contributions and initiative of ordinary citizens and military personnel?
