Incumbents will retain their seats in contested districts following victories in Mat-Su Borough School Board and Assembly elections.
Thomas Bergey defeated challenger Ben Kolendo 4,641-2,2127 in the District 1 school board race. In District 7, Ron Bernier will return to the assembly after a win over Sheena Fort. Bernier received 2,581 votes, compared to 1,936 for Fort. Also on the assembly, incumbent Dee McKee beat challenger Luke Hyce 3,916-1,292.
Mat-Su Borough Mayor Edna DeVries and Dmitri Fonev (District 6) ran unopposed for their assembly seats, and will return, Brooks Pitcher (District 5) ran unopposed for his District 5 school board seat, and will return, Andrew Shane will join the school board after running unopposed in District 4, and will take the seat left by Jubilee Underwood, who opted to run for s seat in the Alaska House of Representatives.
All four ballot props passed. Prop 1, educational and capital improvement bonds, passed 19,396-18,820. Props 2 and 3, consolidation of the Willow and Caswell fire service areas, passed 530-449 and 190-119. Prop 4, borough transportation system road bonds, passed 25,773-12,359.
