Inspired Scripture

The Bible is the bright light of THE truth, God’s truth, shining in our world that is darkened by the god of this world. Jesus prayed to His Father on behalf of all believers, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is Truth” (John 17:17).

Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Apostle Peter echoes this truth, “So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in our hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).

The prophetic word was “made more sure” because the Apostles lived with, learned from and experienced “the Word” in the person of Jesus Christ.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being” (John 1:1-3).

The written word of God (Jewish Scriptures and Christian Bible) was inspired by (given by) a single, infallible author - God. God ensured that the Scriptures remained free of error so that the inspired message would be accurately transmitted. The single author speaks clearly a single unambiguous message – that salvation is by grace through faith in the completed work of Jesus (death, burial and resurrection).

So-called “scholars” deny the inspiration, inerrancy and univocality (single message) of the Bible. The inspiration of the Bible is undeniable.

David stated that God spoke through him, “The Spirit of Yehovah spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke; The Rock of Israel spoke to me” (2 Samuel 23:2-3). Further, David’s writings were also at God’s direction, “Yehovah made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me” (1 Chronicles 28:19).

Likewise Paul spoke of his spoken words, “when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Paul’s writings were also inspired by God, “the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment” (1 Corinthians 14:37)

The Apostles affirmed the inspiration of all Scripture. “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The inspiration of Scripture is denied by those that refuse to obey its teachings and commandments. We must reject their false teachings and flawed scholarship. Jesus said, “the words I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). God’s inspired Word saves us.
