I am sad that everyone is so worked up about Sen. Steven’s conviction. Actually, it shows that our justice system still works and it sends a good message to politicians that voters expect ethics from their politicians. The appearance of taking bribes alone is a bad thing. Getting convicted on all counts is not good at all.
I always think of Alaskans and Iowans as being smart, honest and hard working. My cousin is an oil geologist in Alaska and he talks fondly of the state. We hunt pheasants and you hunt moose. Other than that we are similar.
So I’m sure Alaska voters will do the right thing when they go to the polls to vote for a senator. I know it would not be so good for the state to have a convicted senator in Washington, D.C. And with Democrats in the majority in Washington, D.C., having a Democrat would probably be helpful too.
