Iron Dog to begin

The 19th annual Iron Dog 2000 will start Sunday at 11 a.m. from the Klondike Inn at Big Lake. Twelve Valley racers will be competing this year.

Teams of two racers will compete in the 2000-mile race that runs from Big Lake to Nome, with a finish in Fairbanks planned next Sunday.

A parade of racers will take place Sunday at 9 a.m. with a start at the Fred Meyer parking lot in Wasilla. The parade will proceed to the Klondike Inn where racers will prepare for the start.

2001 Iron Dog champions Ken Lee and Tracey Brassard will race to defend their title this year with last week's Klondike 400 champions Tyson Johnson and Chris Olds also competing.
