It saddened me the other day when I stopped a worker across from Carrs in Palmer to ask what they were building in that lot. “A Safeway Super Center” was his answer. I thought out loud, “What about the current Carrs store across the street?”
Things are brewing here in Palmer. I have nothing but questions: Is the one-way couplet going to happen regardless of no one really wanting it to? Is Safeway the first to make a move that will include a new mall across from it, or even the dreaded Wal-Mart breaking ground just up the street? How is this going to effect traffic? Why so many grocery stores and gas stations in Palmer?
You just drive a few thousand miles through Canada, then through some nice wilderness areas of Alaska and as you are wondering what the “Real Alaska” looks like you see a sign, “Palmer, Alaska at it’s Best.” You think to yourself, “Well now, the real Alaska must be dead ahead.” Then you are confronted with the back side of Fred Meyer, Chevron, McDonald’s and a Safeway Super Center. Is this really “Alaska at it’s Best?”
