During the Palmer City Council meeting on October 8, council members voted to accept the Certificate of Canvass Board results and certifyi the regular election held on October 1, 2024, swore in two council members and said goodbye to another.
Incumbent John Alcantra and new council member Victoria Hudson were sworn in, both set to serve three-year terms on the council. Meanwhile, the council said farewell to Pamela Melin.
“It has been my absolute honor and pleasure to serve this community. What a ride. We’ve accomplished so much and I think that our record shows that we have a cohesive relationship here on the council,” Melin said as she held back tears.
Mayor Steve Carrington quoted Margaret Thatcher when presenting Melin with a farewell:
“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”
Melin told the council and the audience that she will continue to support the community. “I think what I want to leave you with is knowing that you unequivocally have my 100% support. I stand with you, I will stand with you, and if you need someone to talk to, I’m your gal.”
The council then unanimously selected Josh Tudor as the Deputy Mayor and Jim Cooper was selected to fill the role of Alternate Deputy Mayor.
The next regular Palmer City Council meeting will be held October 22 at 6 pm in Palmer City Hall.
