It was Palmer vs. Wasilla in the United States Hockey League Thursday night. When was the last time that happened?
It's fairly rare to find a Mat-Su kid skating in the prestigious United States Hockey League. But on Thursday, a game in the Tier I Junior A hockey league included a Valley player on each bench. Wasilla High graduate Matthew Friese took the ice for the Tri City Storm and former Palmer High standout Jared Hanson was sporting a Lincoln Stars sweater.
Both had nice nights. Friese recorded a pair of assists during Tri City's 3-2 exhibition win over the Stars. Hanson also contributed an assist for his squad. Both players were a +2 for the night.
Like I said, a nice night for both.
