To the editor:
Couldn’t we afford to have some adult-level political cartoons in our Valley paper?
“The World According to Chuck” in the May 31 paper was so typical of the disgusting slander that has come to pass as political humor that I felt it was time to object. The apparent ridicule of a committed and conscientious — even if you also think errant — governor doing what is demanded of all leaders these days in appearing and assessing some ongoing disaster like the Galena flood is worse than just juvenile humor.
Pointing accusatory fingers over imagined differences is a standard immature function, but this is well beyond such foolishness that we could just shrug off. It is either pointless, mindless, self-righteous slander or it is an agenda-driven attack that has no foundation in anything approximating truth. Though hardly an attribute for praise, your cartoonist is at least an equal opportunity slanderer.
I notice he has recently done the same thing to President Obama. It is time to replace your current freelance cartoonist and send out a notice of opening for a political cartoonist who possesses basic adult human respect.
