MAT-SU — Former Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman reporter Eowyn Ivey will be honored as one of three “Contributions to Literacy in Alaska” during a ceremony at 8 p.m., July 16 in Room 101, Rasmuson Hall on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus

A Chickaloon resident, Ivey’s novel “The Snow Child” was the first work by an Alaska author honored as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Since its 2012 release, “The Snow Child” has been published in more than 20 languages and 30 countries. And she is at work on her second book.

Alaska Center for the Book, the state affiliate of the U.S. Library of Congress Center for the Book, has presented the awards to more than 60 people since the award was created 21 years ago. The award honors people and institutions that have made a significant contribution in literacy, the literary arts or the preservation of the written or spoken word in Alaska.
