I am writing in response to the article about the new store being built near Talkeetna at the Y. The article says we don’t have a supermarket. Maybe not, but we do have a super grocery store — Jack’s Gee Haw Supply.
Jack has been operating his store here for years, helping us avoid that grocery run to the lower valley. You won’t find organic arugula, but the staples are there and some goods are cheaper than they are in Wasilla. Besides the fair prices, you get Jack’s stories, news and advice, which are priceless. While you’re there, don’t forget to enter a drawing for a free turkey, giant Christmas stocking or some other seasonal act of goodwill.
A new store is exciting and newsworthy in a small town, but it’s not true that we’ve been without reasonably priced groceries, and it won’t be easy for the new store owners to find a check-out person who can spin a yarn like Jack.
