PALMER - Today is Jack Snodgrass Day in the city of Palmer.
During Tuesday's Palmer City Council meeting, Mayor John Combs proclaimed the special day to honor Snodgrass, longtime city attorney and lifelong Palmer resident, who is retiring after 25 years of advising the city on legal matters.
Combs presented a plaque to Snodgrass during the meeting, and the modest attorney declined to give a speech. Snodgrass instead just smiled, nodded and gave a simple “thank you.”
In addition to the plaque, council member Tony Pippel gave Snodgrass two gift certificates, purchased through donations from current and former council members, as a token of their appreciation for Snodgrass' service.
“We've been very fortunate to have Jack look out for us,” Pippel said.
The retiring attorney received a standing ovation from the council and audience members, some of whom had braved the cold temperatures to attend Tuesday's meeting just to honor Snodgrass and shake his hand.
