Jacqueline Laverne Decker
Long time Alaskan resident, Jacqueline Laverne Decker, passed away peacefully in her sleep the night of July 29, 2021, in her residence in Wasilla, Alaska. She was surrounded by her daughter, Carla Hornung, son-in-law Rich Hornung, grandchildren, Emily and Aaron Allred from Wasilla, and son, Thomas Sullivan from Washington state.
Jackie was born the oldest of nine children on December 29, 1946, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Charles Laverne Ashcraft of Arkansas and Lorraine Alma Woodman, originally from Wisconsin. Jackie lived in Anchorage, Alaska for over 20 years before moving to Wasilla to be closer to her daughter, Carla Hornung. Prior to living in Anchorage, Jackie had resided in Kansas.
Jackie loved living in Alaska. She loved the mountains and all of the beauty of Alaska. She especially loved the snow and winters. She always looked forward to the first snow fall. She spent most of her time sewing and knitting. She loved to give out her hand knitted blankets and hand-made gifts to family and friends. Her greatest enjoyment though came through her faith in God. Jackie enjoyed her time in Bible reading and worship music.
The family knows Jackie is rejoicing in heaven and has no more pain or sorrow. She will be greatly missed. A small service was held at the Palmer, Alaska cemetery on Wednesday, August 4th, where Jackie was laid to rest, with a celebration of life gathering held at the home of daughter, Carla Hornung in Wasilla immediately following the service.
