Jamboree signals start of volleyball season

PALMER -- The local prep volleyball season begins today with the Palmer Volleyball Jamboree at Palmer High School.

Seven prep squads are slated to compete in the annual event. Host Palmer, Houston, Colony and Wasilla will represent the Mat-Su Valley. Grace Christian, Valdez and Kodiak will make the trip for the event.

The event features rapid-fire volleyball action with games played on adjacent courts. Every team plays each team at least once and games are played with rally scoring to 25 points, with a 30-minute time limit.

Following Friday's matching teams will be placed in one of two pools and enter a playoff bracket.

Games begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the playoff matches starting at 1:30 p.m.

The championship match is slated for 3 p.m.
