Funeral services for James "Chester" Woodrow Dyer, 69, of Cookeville were held Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial was in Double Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Dyer died Jan. 27, 2004, at White County Hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1934, in Putnam County, he was the son of the late Woodrow and Ruby May Dyer.
Mr. Dyer was a railroad maintenance man with the Alaskan Railway. He was considered an Alaska pioneer homesteader, going to Willow in 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force.
His family includes four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Sara Dyer of Los Angeles, Calif., Don and Ann Dyer of Cookeville, Frank and Jackie Dyer of Lenoir City and Conrad and Barbara Dyer of Chickaloon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dyer.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
