JAMES D. FREY JR.

Anchorage resident James D. Frey Jr., 59, died Aug. 21, 2004 from injuries sustained in an ATV accident in the hunting area of Chickaloon. Memorial services will be scheduled in mid-September in Palmer, Glennallen and Slana.

Mr. Frey was born July 22, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pa. He moved with his family to Alaska in 1946, where he was raised and graduated from high school.

He entered the Army, served in the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged in 1968. He lived in Fairbanks, the Butte area, Slana and Anchorage. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was foreman for the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in Slana, where he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending gun shows and riding his ATV.

His family said, "James was a stranger to no one and an Alaskan character in every sense of the word."

He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Marle Frey; father, Jim Frey Sr.; brother, John Phil Frey; three aunts, Lucille Frey, Esther Brown, and Florence Smullin; nephew, John Frey and two nieces, Christianna Frey and Reaheanna Frey. His mother, Mary H. Frey, preceded him in death.

In memory of Mr. Frey, the family asks that donations be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 801 W. Fireweed Lane, Suite 103, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
