Palmer resident James P. Green Sr., 61, died Oct. 26, 2002, on the north slope from a heart attack. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Valley Church of Christ, at Mile 36.5 Parks Hwy., with Pastor Robert Keuning officiating. A reception followed at 9205 Bernard Court in Palmer.

Mr. Green was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Columbus, Kan., and received his B.S., R.N. and P.A. in the medical field. He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and moved to Anchorage in 1980, Eagle River in 1982 and then to Palmer in 1983. Mr. Green retired from the Air Force in August of 1993 and had worked for the State of Alaska; Dept. Of Corrections from 1983-1990; Arco Alaska Inc. at Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk from 1990 until retiring in August of 2000; BP Exploration from September 2000 to November 2002.

Mr. Green was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed photography, archery and cabinet making.

His family wrote, " He was a loving husband, beloved father and adored grandfather."

He is survived by his wife Mary Green; children Kristy Steiffert, Jim Green, Michael Green, Mary Foote and Melanie Simpson; grandchildren Jamie, Derrick, Josie, Aarin, Nathan and Cody.
