Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

James Eugene Waley, 43, died April 16, 2005 at his home in Talkeetna of heart failure. Services will be held at Talkeetna VFW Hall at noon, April 26, with John Jones officiating. Burial will be in Talkeetna Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
Mr. Waley was born Jan. 6, 1962, in Eureka, Calif. He graduated from high school in Puyallup, Wash., attended vocational technical school in Tacoma, Wash., and served a four-year apprenticeship as a journeyman electrician from a community college in Lynnwood, Wash.
In 1994, he moved to Talkeetna, where he enjoyed fishing, hiking, snowmachining, cross-country skiing and painting. He was employed with Veco as a journeyman electrician. He volunteered as an emergency medical technician in Talkeetna and when he was working in Prudhoe Bay, and received numerous awards.
His family wrote, "Jim was an exceptional artist in pencil and oils, especially portraits. He loved being an Alaskan. His happiest hours were spent fishing Montana Creek and sitting for hours in his home, painting and enjoying the view of Fish Lake and Denali."
Mr. Waley is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Waley; parents, William and Charlotte Waley of Arizona; daughter, Amber Wills of Washington; sister, Teresa Johns of Iowa; stepdaughters; Amber, Bridgette and D'Arcy; one grandson and one soon-to-be granddaughter of Washington and three step-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary in Anchorage.
