This is the last weekend for this amazing theatrical musical production at the Glenn Massay Theater at the college. This popular show ran on Broadway for years and now it is in Palmer! The soundtrack is very famous and many of the theater goers were singing the lyrics from their seats. The cast was ambitious and successful in presenting both the joy and chaos surrounding the politics and psychology of Jesus, Mary and Judas. The music, like the play, is both uplifting and disturbing and passionate. There are 4 shows left…order a ticket now. Go see it. And thank the sponsors! You will laugh and weep and ultimately be so grateful for the opportunity to see such talented live theater in our Valley. By the way, “Judas,” is played by local Bronsen Stewart who is also the owner/director at remarkable A-List Productions.
“What’s the Buzz….tell me whatsa’ happ-en-ing…”—Just had to repeat this phrase from the play. It seems like the original buzz line which the Palmer Alaska Buzz is pleased to imitate!
Palmer Water Tower—Perhaps it is just the remarkable shift of season but our water tower now seems to be wearing all the colors now. Blues and purples and lavenders and pinks…is this preparation for the forthcoming Winter Games?
Palmer History Night—On Monday, the 15th, the Palmer History Society will present Giant Cabbages and Monster Vegetables with Dr. Steve Brown—who is known for his humor and knowledge about horticulture, agriculture and natural resources. In addition to being both kind and brilliant, Steve is a born comedian and speaker. So if you don’t like cabbage you will still like his presentation…I promise. The free event is at the Moose Lodge in downtown Palmer at 7pm on January 15th. The people are great and there are always delicious refreshments—which are not usually cabbage oriented.
Antiques Roadshow Represented with Palmer—If you watch the Antiques Roadshow, pay particular attention to the next three segments on Jan 8, 15, and 22. These three episodes feature the very first Alaska offerings which was filmed this past summer at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. More than one Palmer individual was chosen to film live for the shows national coverage. It’s a surprise but you will get to see the remarkable finds of our community on these PBS shows!
Feather and Flour In Palmer—New on the Palmer Dinner Circuit is the relatively new restaurant Feather and Flour. It is an exciting addition to our Palmer foodie choices. If you love Brie cheese, Oysters, Scallops, Tomato-Basil Soup, Filet Mignon, or Mushroom Gnocchi, then this is going to be a bit of culinary heaven for you. Palmer has a lot of food choices now but really good dinner restaurants are few in number. However, without a doubt, this is fine dining. There are lots of options on their impressive menu for appetizers, three different courses, and pairings with beer, wine and cocktails. And of course there are remarkable dessert offerings. This restaurant offers a great eating experience and prides itself on the local ingredients grown or harvested in Alaska. And the best thing is it is in a cute, old house in downtown Palmer.
Stuff to Do—We are in January and breathing a sigh of relief from the long extended holiday season. The epiphany closes the holiday season down and life can resume in our January Winter. There is a lot to do in the winter both inside and outside. Inside there is swimming, basketball, pickle-ball, yoga, roller-derby, curling, painting, knitting, book clubs, card groups, music and of course reading of all sorts. Outside there are the winter hikes, skis, skates, snowshoes. And always is the never-ending shoveling and snow maintenance. There is always time for a nice little winter nap as well. Workshops and classes are plentiful and will only increase as we go forward in the our year.
