Jim Creek closing to salmon fishing

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced on Monday that Jim Creek will close to salmon fishing at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, September 2.

The emergency order is based on low numbers of coho salmon at the popular Knik River tributary. According to Fish and Game, fishing has been below average for this time of year and biologists are concerned the creek won’t meet its escapement goal.

The closure does not affect other Valley streams such as Fish, Wasilla and Cottonwood creeks.
