Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Jimmie Ernest Rogers, 58, died of cancer at home on March 14, 2004.
A memorial service was held March 20 at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church at 7010 E. Bogard Road in Wasilla. Pastor Paul Riley officiated. His ashes will be scattered over Mount Baldy at a later date.
Mr. Rogers was born Oct. 11, 1945, in Boise, Idaho. He became a resident of Alaska in November of 1971 residing in Wasilla. Mr. Rogers worked for the city of Boise Tree Division from 1965 to 1968. He worked for Blackstock Homes in Seattle from 1968 to 1971. After moving to Alaska he worked for Al White in Ketchikan from 1971 to 1967 and for Madsen Development in Juneau from 1976 to 1991.
Mr. Rogers was a member and legionnaire of Loyal Order of the Moose as well as past governor of the lodge in Meadow Lakes.
He loved spending time camping, fishing and four-wheeling with the family and grandchildren, working in his garden and doing any project that came up with the family.
His family wrote, "Dad was awesome! He taught us the morals and values we needed to be the adults and parents we are today, but, most of all, the importance of family."
Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Ed Rogers.
He is survived by his wife Ann; children and their spouses, Susan and Randy Dennis, Michele and Russell Coker and Staci and Shane Chapman; grandchildren Trisha Cadiente, Randy and Stefani Dennis, Larry, Melisa and Jimmie Coker, Stephen, Sami and Gina Lofton, Keighvin, Kaylee and Donavin Chapman; great-grandchildren Taylor and Madeline Cadiente; brother John Rogers; sisters and their spouses, Cecelia and David Cook, Carybelle and David Rodriguez; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends Michelle and Steve Carlile.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
