PALMER — Katie Childs graduated from the Alaska Job Corps Center three years ago and now runs Talkeetna’s water/wastewater plant.

She returned to the Palmer campus recently as a mentor to student Jess Medina, and others in the water/wastewater. During a presentation at the school she said she said she loves her job, the town, her colleagues, and her new home.

Prior to training at Job Corps, Childs said she lived in Skwentna and was homeschooled for many years.

She said the Job Corps program was challenging, but she worked hard, made lifelong friends, and became certified in a very lucrative trade.

She advised the current students to just commit to two years of study, which eventually would change their lives.
