Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

PALMER — Five Mat-Su Valley residents have graduated from the Alaska Job Corps Center.
CrystalLohrey, Natalie McCul-lough, Eric Van Nice, Louis Kraft and Megan Halvorson have all completed requirements to receive their respective certificates.
Lohrey of Big Lake, graduated with water and waste water certification in the health and community services industry.
“I feel ready to give services to others,” said Lohrey, who is currently working in Meadow Lakes. “I would like to work in the missions, where my skills are needed.”
McCullough of Talkeetna, obtained her Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, and is now working for a Palmer insurance company and local photography business.
“Job Corps helped to bring out the best in my capabilities,” McCullough said.
Van Nice of Palmer, graduated with a culinary arts certification. He also received his ServSafe and CPR certificates.
“If you work hard, you can prosper,” said Nice, who plans on working as a line cook at the Captain Cook. “You really can do anything you put your mind to.”
Van Nice said he’d also like to own his own restaurant in the future.
Like Van Nice, Kraft of Wasilla, also received culinary arts certification, and ServSafe and CPR certificates.
“The Alaska Job Corps program has made me ready to face the work,” Kraft said.
Halvorson of Wasilla, graduated as a nurse assistant and home health aide.
