Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Joel Harland Johnston Jr., 64, died Oct. 24, 2005, from complications of illness at Providence Alaska Medical Center. The family will be holding a private ceremony.
Mr. Johnston was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Denver. He received a bachelor of science degree at San Jose State College in California, moved to Wasilla in 1981 and retired as a registered nurse. Mr. Johnston was a Christian who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gold mining, reading and movies.
His family wrote, “He was a loving husband, father and brother. He had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was loved very much and will be missed. He was a wonderful fishing and hunting partner.”
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Johnston; brothers, Dan and Mike Johnston; sons, Keith Johnston and Ken Brown; daughters, Rene Thompson and Lorena Brice; grandchildren, Jessie, Kodi, Jenny, Whitney, Genna, Levi, Allison, Mercede and Kelsey.
