Former Big Lake resident, Mr. Joey Jon Seime, 40, died Nov. 5, 2003, in San Bernardino, Calif., after failure to recover from being a victim of a violent crime in the state of California.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Valley Funeral Home Chapel, 151 E. Herning Ave. in Wasilla. The Rev. Henry Woodall will officiate.

Mr. Seime was born March 9, 1963, in Chama, N.M.

He became a resident of Alaska in 1984, living in Big Lake until 1992.

He worked as a driller's helper at the Valdez Creek Mine in the late 1980s. He also worked out of Clear, Alaska.

Mr. Seime loved to hunt and fish. He was also a licensed assistant guide.

His family wrote, "He loved his dog called Road Dog. He was always ready to help anyone in need. His favorite saying was, 'My future is so bright I gotta wear shades.'"

Mr. Seime was preceded in death by his mother Karen Kay Seime; grandparents George and Lilian Frank and Carl and Margeret Seime; nephew Brandon Matteson and uncles Bernell and Duane Seime.

Mr. Seime is survived by his father and step-mother Dale and Patricia Seime; brother and sister-in-law Craig and Nancy Seime; brother Steve Seime, all of Alaska; sisters Debbie Mendoza of Chicago, Mitzi Seime of Capistrano Beach, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Sheila and Mike Matteson of Wilder, Idaho; nephews Tony Meis, Craig Seime Jr., Lane and Lawson Matteson; nieces Kassy and Breanna Seime; and many other cousins, aunts and uncles.

Local arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
