John and Darlene Mascarella celebrate 50 years

John and Darlene Mascarella celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 31, 2015.

John and Darlene began their romance in California. After marrying they expanded their family in 1966 with the birth of their oldest, John (Bub to family and friends). When Darjon came along in 1969, their little family was complete. The family relocated to Alaska for work in 1973. They spent a few years in Anchorage, before eventually moving to the Valley, which they have called home since.

John (Dodah to his family) worked as a radio DJ early in his career while in California and Las Vegas. Though he loves to entertain he found his niche in public service first working at McLaughlin Youth Center where he was named Counselor of the Year and eventually retiring from the Department of Corrections.

Darlene was able to be at home during her kids’ formative years and spent time volunteering in the classroom. When her youngest began high school, she started back to work at Macmillan and Max, a local hair salon. After many years at the salon Darlene joined the accounting firm of Boyer, Bowers, and Kennedy until her retirement. In her spare time, Darlene was usually found on the softball field winning many MVP awards.

In retirement, the couple enjoys many hobbies and activities, but their favorite time is anytime with granddaughters, Maia and Sophia. They have played a very integral part in helping raise two beautiful young ladies to which their parents are extremely grateful.

John and Darlene are thrilled to celebrate their 50th anniversary with their kids, son-in-law, Michael and the apples of their eyes, Maia and Sophia.
