JOHN CARL ERVIN

A resident of Northway, John Carl Ervin was born March 11, 1963, in Glenallen and was taken from his family on Sept. 21, 2001.

Mr. Ervin graduated from Walter Northway High School where he excelled in hockey, baseball and cross-country skiing with academic awards in math, English and social studies. He went on to excel as a heavy equipment operator/mechanic and received certificates from Alaska Vocational Technical Training Center in Seward in 1983 and from Job Corps Technical Center in White Swan, Wash. which he completed in 1986. He worked as an operating engineer for many road construction companies out of Locals 302 & 612 IUOE. His other skills were carpentry, laborer and firefighter.

His famly said, "Friends and family knew JC as energetic, self-reliant, dependable and capable with a quick and mischievous wit. His kind generous concern for others was readily apparent in his actions. He used teasing, joking and funny stories to uplift the spirits of his friends and family. His easy going manner made him many lifelong and loyal friends."

He was preceded in death by parents Justin and Jessie Ervin; and brother Leonard Ervin. He is survived by siblings, Frederick Ervin, Diane Church, Karin Hocking, Christine Sullenbarger, Larry Demit, Edward Demit, Bruce Ervin, Travis Ervin and Rebecca Ervin; nephews Christopher and Joseph Church, Justin Ervin, Gregory and Jamie Brinkman, Joseph and Larry (LJ) Demit and Doren Sanford; nieces Taylor Horvath, Jessi and Casondra Demit and Loretta Fic; uncles Fred Demit, Robert Demit; aunt Doris David; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were made by Anchorage Funeral Home.
