Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident John Edouard Crowell, 40, died at his home of natural causes.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Mahoneyville, Mile 2 Sunrise Road in Wasilla. His ashes will be scattered at Deep Creek at a later date.
Mr. Crowell was born Sept. 1, 1962, in Castro Valley, Calif.
He was a graduate of Bartlett High School.
Mr. Crowell became a resident of Alaska in August 1969. He lived in Anchorage for 20 years before moving to Wasilla.
He was a long haul truck driver in partnership with his father at Don Crowell Trucking Company until 1999. He also owned and operated John's Engine Repair shop for 10 years until his death.
His interests included drag racing, fishing and working on engines.
His family wrote, "John helped his dad build a race car when he was 5 years old and has worked on race cars ever since. He loved people and would never say no to anyone who needed a helping hand. In return, he was loved much by a great many people and will be greatly missed."
Mr. Crowell is survived by his mother Delia Crowell;
sister Yvonne Trihub; niece Chantel Gagnon; nephew Gideon Crowell; aunts, June Hewitt, Connie Mahoney and Carolyn Barrett; uncles, Tom Crowell and David Barrett; grandmothers, Frances Barrett and Velva Crowell; and his cousins, Cheryl, Donna, Jeanne and Brian Hewitt, Jim, Elena and Julie Crowell, Davy, Holly and Kristin Barrett, Rachael Sparrow, Joe Mahoney and Tom Cooney.
Memorial donations may be sent to Delia Crowell, 3360 Chaparral Circle, Anchorage AK 99502.
