KNIK — Declaring she was “blown away” to be mentioned in the same sentence as mushers like Leonhard Seppala and Joe Redington Sr., DeeDee Jonrowe was inducted into the Mushers Hall of Fame Sunday during a picnic to mark the historic occasion.

“These guys did it without good trail and without someone expecting them on the other end,” Jonrowe said.

At the end of her run, she said she hopes her legacy will be state-of-the-art dog care.

Dogs have defined her life, Jonrowe told the crowd of 100 or so fans who gathered at the Knik Museum for a celebratory picnic on a perfect summer day.

“I loved dogs when I was little,” Jonrowe said. “Now dogs define almost every aspect of my life.”
