KNIK — Iditarod dog musher DeeDee Jonrowe will be inducted into the Mushers’ Hall of Fame July 21 at Knik Museum during the museum’s annual potluck picnic.

The public is invited to attend this event, sponsored by the Wasilla-Knik Historical Society.

The action begins at 1 p.m., continues until late afternoon and includes a mail delivery by dog sled and an archeological dig.

The museum, in a building dating back to the early 1900s, is located at Mile 13.9, Knik-Goose Bay Road. The Hall of Fame includes more than a dozen famous mushers beginning with Leonhard Seppala and his lead dog Balto.

Jonrowe, a University of Alaska graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, has been mushing since 1979 and has won numerous awards for the care of her dogs, now numbering 72.

She has placed second in the Iditarod twice and won several other races, including the Copper Basin 300, Klondike 300 and John Beargrease sled dog marathon. She has both the fastest time of any other woman in the history of the Iditarod and 14 top-10 finishes in her career.

The public is invited to join the Wasilla-Knik Historical Society and its many friends for this special occasion. Bring a dish to share.
