JOYCE ANNE (POTTER) PARKERSON

Joyce Anne (Potter) Parkerson, 67, died peacefully on Sunday morning, April 27, 2003. She was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Greenup, Ky., and grew up in Troy, Ohio.

She married Robert Parkerson of New York state on Feb. 5, 1955, before moving around the country and to Puerto Rico, where they started their family. Shortly thereafter, they returned to Ohio and Indiana before making Alaska their home in 1971.

After six years in Fairbanks, Joyce and 'Bob' Parkerson made Palmer their final home. They were a devoted couple for 48 years. Joyce Parkerson, a gifted craft maker and seamstress, created many beautiful keepsakes. She spent many days outdoors, enjoying her garden, fishing, hunting, and going to garage sales.

She was a life member of the National Rifle Association and belonged to The Palmer Moose Lodge Number 793.

Her family said, "She was a loving woman who always had a bright smile and warm hug to give. Her sons, grandchildren, and many relatives were very dear to her heart. Throughout the years, she made many visits to her family in the states. Her family was the ultimate and driving force in her life. Her adventurous spirit, devoted heart and commitment to her family will be forever missed."

Joyce Parkerson was preceded by her father Isaac V. Potter (1975). She is survived by many family members, friends and loved ones, including her husband Robert H. Parkerson of Palmer; mother, Oma Potter of Troy, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Dorothy Parkerson of Fairbanks, son Keith Parkerson of Sutton; her grandchildren, Shiloh and Andrew, Sarah, Danielle, Kyle, and Melissa, of Fairbanks and Sutton; brothers and their wives John and Norma Potter, Jim and Linda Potter, Bill and Chris Potter, all of Troy, Ohio, and Gerry and wife Valerie Potter of Las Vegas, Nev.; and sister Jan and husband "Whitey" Allen.

The funeral was held Thursday, May 1, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church at 2 p.m., and a Celebration of Life ceremony followed.
