Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Joyce Roberts, 68, died peacefully of natural causes at her home in Anchorage on May 18, 2005. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. today, at the home of Vicky Schatz in Palmer; please call (907) 745-5802 for directions.
Mrs. Roberts was born March 24, 1937 in Palmer, to Minnie and Allen Sexton. Daughter of colonists of the Mat-Su Valley, Mrs. Roberts was one of the first children born at Valley Hospital, and lived in Palmer and Wasilla in her early years.
She married Don Caulkins in 1953, lived in Palmer during the winter and commercial fished with him on Cook Inlet during the summers. They had four children together.
She met her second husband, Harold Roberts, in 1971. They lived at Alexander Creek and in Anchorage. The couple commercial fished in Bristol Bay for many years together. Mrs. Roberts lived the last years of her life at the place she loved, Alexander Creek.
Her loved ones wrote, "Joyce enjoyed spending time and laughing with her family and friends. She thrived on the lifestyle and beauty of living at Alexander Creek. She enjoyed cooking for everyone who visited her. She loved her dogs."
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband, Harold Roberts; son, Donald Caulkins; daughter, Vicky Schatz; stepdaughters, Lorna Roberts, Theresa Roberts, Christine Roberts, and Julia Roberts, and her beloved dogs, Moose and Pup. She had 22 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Caulkins; daughter, Connie Caulkins; sister, Agnes Rasmussen, and brothers, Alvin, Elmer, Frank and Clifford Sexton. Arrangements were provided by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
