JUNEAU — Quarterback Dakota Smith and wide receiver Alex Fagerstrom connected on a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears to a 35-7 Railbelt Conference win over the Wasilla Warriors in Juneau on Friday.
Fagerstrom, the reigning offensive player of the year, hauled in his first touchdown catch in the first quarter, and added another late in the win.
Smith threw three touchdown tosses for the defending state champions.
All-state running back Silver Maake posted a rushing touchdown and defensive back Matthew Maka returned a Wasilla interception for a touchdown in the win.
Reserve quarterback Cody Pfeifer put the Warriors on the scoreboard with a 30-yard touchdown strike to running back Chris Bydlon in the fourth quarter.
Wasilla (1-1) entered the game as the state’s fifth-best large-schools team according to the latest Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network’s latest prep football poll. Juneau is the top-ranked team.
The Bears, who beat West Valley 45-7 last week, improved to 2-0 in Railbelt play, while Wasilla slipped to 0-1.
Lathrop hosted Palmer in Railbelt action Saturday night, but results were unavailable prior to press time.
