Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident June Lillian Nunley, 83, died at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage on July 12, 2003.
At Mrs. Nunley's request, no public services are scheduled. Her ashes will be interred with her husband's at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mrs. Nunley was born June 27, 1920, in Chicago, Ill. She came to Alaska in December 1947 and resided in the Wasilla area.
She was a lifetime homemaker who enjoyed old movies, collecting dolls and, most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was very active in the VFW Auxiliary from the early 1950s until the 1990s, having served as past department president and ending her voluntary service as department treasurer for many years.
Her family said, "As one of Wasilla's pioneer homesteaders, she will be remembered by her extensive volunteer work and devotion to family. Her quick wit and caring nature touched all those around her."
Her husband Leo preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Nunley is survived by her son John Nunley of Palmer, sons and daughters-in-law Fred and Shirley Nunley of Wasilla, Jack and Linda Nunley of Springfield, Ore., Mark and MaryAnn Nunley of Wasilla; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Fleckenstien of Wasilla, Jane and Gordon Aklestad of Palmer, Meg and Morgan Voss of Anchorage; grandchildren Dan, Amy, Darren, JoyLynn, Tim, Lisa, Robert, Camy, David, Jennifer, Dawn, Matthew, Mark, Jack, Paul, Ryan, Andrew, Reid and Morgan; and great-grandchildren Daniel, Jordan, Katie, Nicholas, Austin, Alanna, Kiara, Braden, Jewel, Jamie, Bradley, Max and Janae.
Memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics, 4055 Arctic Warrior Drive, Elmendorf AFB, AK 99506.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory of Wasilla.
