Juneau road would fail in vote of priorities

In reference to the Spectrum article (”Juneau road a project that makes sense,” April 25) wherein Mr. (Richard J.) Knapp of Juneau plugs the proposed Juneau road — he states “more efficient, cost effective transportation.”

Can you say “avalanche” and “landslide?”

Mr. Knapp thinks Mat-Su residents would want to drive to Juneau to go fishing? With today’s gas prices? We have plenty of fishing here, thank you.

He also failed to mention the chunk of money you have to have just to enter Canada, not to mention firearm restrictions, AND the fact that many Alaskans would be forbidden to enter Canada because of criminal history (DUI, DWLS/DWLR, no insurance, etc, etc). Especially if the Canadian authorities have access to our current warrant list!

Mr. Knapp states “finally, is this something the people want?” I would say no. And if the citizens of Alaska were to vote on this proposed expenditure, I suspect you would get an avalanche of nos.

What say the Frontiersman poll the readers on this?

P.S. Would you rather see the state spend money on a dumb road for Juneau, or get lane markings on our roads? And maybe a bike path and separate ATV trail between Wasilla and Big Lake? The needs of the many outweigh the few.
