The Junior Avalanche hockey association U18 II, U16 II and U16III squads traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, recently to compete in the 2014 Arizona Hockey Clubs Thanksgiving Shootout. The U18 II team won its division in the tournament. The U16II finished second. The U18 squad scored a 2-1 win over the Idaho Falls Eagles in the finals. Kyle Johnson and Luke Schruf scored goals for the Avalanche. Schruf, a Wasilla High senior, tallied the game-winner. Schruf led the team with four goals in the tournament. The Avalanche U16 squad suffered a 5-1 loss to the Phoenix Junior Coyotes U15AAA squad in the division final. Garrett Conroy scored the lone goal for the Avalanche. Conroy led the team with four goals and three assists in the tournament. Josh Boyer scored a team-high five goals.
